Intern Graduation!

Ken, Greg, Dennis (and daughter)
Ken and Marit

Naval Hospital Bremerton had a graduation ceremony today for the interns and third year residents. It was a very nice ceremony and the spouses were presented with appreciation gifts as well. Ken is in his "dress whites." Greg (and Karla) and Dennis (and Katie, plus 2 kids) pictured above have become our good friends out here. They will both be continuing with Ken for another 2 years. There is a fun event tonight called "Hail and Farewell" that is the real celebration. Congrats Ken!

Slowly but surely....

Well, we seem to be getting the place together piece by piece. Our carpet install date got moved up to this Monday, so we can actually move out of the basement! I'm on call this Sunday so Mar has her work cut out for her to finish everythingt we need done prior to getting the carpet in. Considering that we were pacing ourselves for a July 3rd installation, I won't hold my breath. We've decided to forgo the deck expnsion in favor of putting in a patio of some sort on the ground level. The savings have allowed us to get our....drumroll please....HOT TUB a little sooner. It should be delivered in a few weeks. Just a little more paint and this should feel like home. There will still be a lot of finishing touches (molding and other trim work, etc.), but the major construction and painting are about done. Anyway, you should all try to get out here and visit. I only have one more week of being an intern so I go from being on call 7 times per month to only 2 or 3 times per month. What will I do with all the time???

So we haven't been too productive lately. I am trying to get used to a new career, two jobs, a new house and well, sometimes it is a little much. But today was good because my primary job was able to give me enough hours and kind of have a plan of how I will fit in to the staff. Note that I am "on call" but need to get 3 shifts per week to stay here. Next Tuesday, I will start at the community pharmacy where I will work about 1 shift per week. All in all, pretty good, but there is always weirdness when starting a new job.
Over the next week I am not working that much so that I can study for licensure and finish this long move-in process.
I'm sorry if I have not kept in touch and I know I have missed a few birthdays this spring! Things will slow down soon since Ken has almost completed his intern year! Yeah!

Sunday 6/11/06

As you can see, Ken is working hard while I take time out to have fun, with Captain Morgan. Ken is not allowed to UPTUI (Use Power Tools Under the Influence). Annemarie is over this weekend and helped with the upstairs painting. Unlike our frineds Katie and Danny - we cannot get this done in one day! I will put up more pics as we finish projects. An architect is coming out this Thursday to make plans for a deck extension. Then we can get the hot tub up there! Whoo hoo!
Time to go mow the grass - it is a foot high.

Monday 6/5/06

So the move was a pain , as usual. This is the LAST move we are EVER doing ourselves. Save a friendship - get a mover. I painted my right hand in to unusefullness over last weekend and split my toe open while digging through the boxes to find the birdseed. We joked about putting the bird out by the trash with the furniture, but we are not mean in reality. We have now managed to find the controls to the propane fireplace in the basement so I can sleep without five blankets (there was a hidden door!). We are close to getting the basement painted, so I will post a pic soon. Note that out carpet is still out upstairs, that is why we are in the basement.
